Adventures of a New Homeowner- Home Warranty Edition

Note: As a new homeowner, I wanted to share some of the personal experiences my wife and I have had as we moved to Greensboro. Hopefully, you enjoy the peek into our lives over the course of this series!

Recently my wife Ashley and I purchased a home and moved to Greensboro- it is the first time I have owned a home, and it has been an exciting adventure thus far!

Within 24 hours of moving into our new home- the heat stopped working. I mean, who needs heat in an ice storm anyway?!?

When working on getting the heat fixed, I learned very quickly how expensive some home repairs can be! (A new HVAC unit can easily be upwards of $5,000)

It was through this process that I was thankful we worked with an experienced realtor who made sure that the sellers included a home warranty as a part of our offer – thanks, Kathy!

Although the home warranty did not seem important to me when we were viewing houses, it certainly was a lot more important once we were in the house and the heat stopped working- saving us a lot of money!

I am glad to report that the heat is once again working- of course now that Spring is arriving, we don’t need it nearly as much as we did- and our new house is feeling more and more like a home every day!

Looking back, I am grateful we worked with a professional and heeded her advice. If it was not for Kathy, I would not have thought a home warranty was an important element to our offer and would have had a very expensive repair bill!

Just like our realtor who was able to guide us through the home buying process and offer great advice, a financial advisor can be invaluable when putting together a financial plan. Sometimes that professional experience and advice can help you avoid common mistakes or find opportunities that you may have been overlooked! If you would like a review of your current financial plan or help with putting one together, we here at Plybon would be happy to help.
