Bob Plybon is Chief Executive Officer of Plybon & Associates, Inc. He began his career with Home Life Insurance Company in 1972 and has been deeply involved in the life insurance industry ever since.
Serving as President in 1995, Bob has been a Qualifying and Life member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT)* for more than 42 years, with Top of the Table distinction for more than 35 years. He also held the position of Diamond Knight of the MDRT Foundation. With a strong focus on industry involvement, Bob has also served as past President of AALU, the North Carolina Association of Life Underwriters, Greensboro Association of Life Underwriters, Greensboro Society of Financial Services Professionals, and Greensboro Estate Planning Council. He has participated in the Presidents Circle** and as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The American College and also on the Board of Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education – LIFE. Bob holds Diplomat honors with the Insurance and Financial Advisors Political Action Committee (IFAPAC), is a past Trustee of the Life Underwriting Training Counsel, and is currently a member of the Golden Key Society of the American Society of CLU, AALU, and the AALU Legislative Circle.
Bob has had the privilege of lecturing extensively to insurance industry and estate and business planning groups in 43 states and 17 foreign countries. Within his community, he has held various civic leadership positions and membership roles. His greater accomplishments include working with organizations such as Battleground Sertoma (past President), Christian Education and Finance Committee of the St. Francis Episcopal Church (past Vestryman, Director, and Chairman), United Way (volunteer), the Greensboro Urban Ministry Homeless Night Shelter (volunteer), and the Board of the East Carolina University Foundation (past Chairman).
Bob has received numerous professional and civic awards, ranging from multiple Underwriter of the year awards, to Selected Outstanding Alumnus of East Carolina University, and from the Huebner Gold Medal from The American College, to the John Newton Russell Award, one of the highest honors that can be given to an individual within the life insurance and financial planning industry, recognizing a lifetime of professional excellence, service to the industry, and commitment to ethical conduct.
He earned a BS in business administration from East Carolina University, in Greenville, North Carolina, and currently sits on the university’s board of trustees as chair of the Finance and Facilities Committee. Additionally, Bob holds the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations.
Bob and his wife, Mary Ellen, have two children, Rosemary and Charlie, and four grandchildren, Hal, Bert, Maye, and Viv.
